In 1996, the North Shore Fire Department joined fire departments around the country in the "Keep the Wreath Red" program. The "Keep the Wreath Red" Program is a visual reminder to citizens to take additional safety precautions during the holiday season to make this a safe and happy holiday season. As the holiday season begins, each fire station in the North Shore places in public view a holiday wreath decorated with red bulbs. The wreaths are illuminated constantly. If a fire is directly caused by holiday decorations, one red bulb will be changed to a white bulb. "Keep The Wreath Red!" The North Shore Health Department is following the most current guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and the State of Wisconsin regarding eligible target populations for the H1N1 vaccine. They will offer vaccine to the general population as soon as more vaccine is available and they get the go-ahead from these authorities. The H1N1 vaccine is available at no cost. For the most current information, visit the North Shore Health Department's website at www.browndeerwi.org and click on "North Shore Health Department". Many American adults gain several pounds during the holidays between November and January each year. You can see how this can add up to a lot of weight after several seasons. This year, why not decide to take control of your food intake and activity level? Eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables every day, and be physically active for at least 30 minutes most days of the week. You will feel and look better in January, and your heart will thank you! |
