Parking Safety Tips To
Always Keep In Mind
- Park in designated business parking spots.
- If you see someone or something that looks suspicious, call the Glendale Police Department at (414) 228-1753. Trust your instincts!
- Always lock your car - when you get in and when you get out.
- Keep your car's interior clear. You make it easy for thieves if you leave your belongings visible through the windows of your vehicle. Make sure to put things either in your house or in the trunk of your car. This especially includes purses, electronics such as laptop computers or MP3 players, luggage, and shopping bags.
- Walk at a steady pace and be alert - appear confident and purposeful. An attacker expects a passive victim, so if you walk slowly and appear to not know where you are going, you will seem like an easy target.
- Trust your instincts! If a situation, place or person makes you feel uncomfortable or uneasy - LEAVE and contact the Police immediately.
- Have your key ready before you reach your car.

Adopt a Fire Hydrant
As winter approaches, help the North Shore Fire Department by adopting the fire hydrant closest to your home or business and keep it free of snow.
At a fire, the Fire Department must quickly locate and gain a water supply source from the closest fire hydrant. A fire engine carries enough water for approximately 3 1/2 minutes of firefighting. If a fire hydrant is buried by snow, it is difficult to find and valuable time must be spent digging it out. The delay in gaining a water supply from a fire hydrant may disrupt the timely manner in which firefighters are able to fight the fire and may allow a fire to grow.
Keep the snow clear from around the fire hydrant and shovel a path from the street or roadway up to the fire hydrant. These actions will allow the Fire Department to quickly locate a fire hydrant and obtain a water supply for firefighting activities.
