The Benefits Of Building Permits

Obtaining the proper permit for your project ensures your project is built right, safe and will last. A permit is a small investment that can protect you in the event of improper workmanship.

It's your safety…don't assume it is ok!

Also, you will avoid penalties and fees by getting your permit before starting a project or installing an appliance and help ensure a smooth process.

The best way to find out if you need a permit is to call the City Building Inspection Department at 228-1708 or for a list of projects requiring a permit, visit: www.glendale-wi.org/permitlist.pdf

ALWAYS get a permit!

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE DISPOSAL PROGRAM

Bring your hazardous waste, such as pesticides, solvents, automotive fluids and other potentially harmful chemicals to the mobile site listed below or to the permanent collection facility located at W124 N9451 Boundary Road, Menomonee Falls.

State Fair Park April 25 11 am- 6 pm
Gate 8 April 26 8 am - 2 pm
(off of South 76th Street)

DO NOT bring latex paint to the Hazardous Waste facility. Dry out the paint by lining a big box with plastic and fill it with thin layers of paint. Once it's dry, pour in another layer until the paint can is empty. Place newspaper or kitty litter in the box to help absorb more paint. When the paint in the box is dry, throw it all in the normal garbage.

RUMMAGE SALES

Last year, the Common Council adopted an ordinance pertaining to conducting rummage sales within the City. The following procedures have been established for property owners in order to comply with this ordinance.

The rummage sale registration process is as follows:

  • Rummage sales will be permitted on residential property for up to three (3) days per sale with a maximum number of sales per property of three (3) per year.
  • No fee will be required.
  • A property owner wishing to conduct a rummage sale may come to City Hall and/or City Services during normal office hours or may phone either 228-1705 or 228-1710 and register their proposed rummage sale, provided the following information is given:

  • 1. Name of property owner
    2. Address of the sale
    3. Dates of rummage sale
  • A rummage sale registration must be received no later than noon on Friday for a sale to take place that weekend.
  • No fee or permit will be required for a rummage sale sign, provided it meets the requirements of the sign ordinance.
  • Any rummage sale signs on City right-of-way, boulevards, medians, City trees, light poles or traffic signs will be removed by either the Police Department, Public Works Department or City personnel without notification to the property owner.
If you have any questions regarding rummage sales, please contact Todd Stuebe at 228-1704.

HELP PROTECT YOUR DRINKING WATER

A Hose Bibb Vacuum Breaker device is an easy and inexpensive way to prevent the possibility of accidental water contamination from your home. Available in brass or plastic, these devices prevent backflow or back siphonage of water from hoses into the potable water system of your home. They cost around $5.00 and are available at most hardware and home improvement outlets. These easily installed devices are required by the State Plumbing Code and as part of the City Code Compliance Program. Property owners should install them anywhere a standard garden hose can be attached such as a laundry/utility tub faucet or exterior hose bibb.
